Kenny's Not Feeling Well...
Kenny's Not Feeling Well...By: Skankin' HomerProduct #: SBR-001Price: $8.00Skankin' Homer played the Pittsbugh area from approx oct 1997 to summer of 2000. or was it '99? I have no clue. Since the demise of Skankin' Homer, several bands have cropped up containing ex-members.
Aside from the fact that Ryan's other band, The SoBs, were still active, the first to emerge was Dreadnot. This consisted of SH members Drew and Brian, the SH roadie, Tony, and Big 'Uns (remember those guys from Altoona! They were great. I was crushed the day they told me the band broke up! (side note on the Big 'Uns, Nate currently plays in 8 Track Mind outta Montana and Chris plays upright bass for The Marauders (they play in Pgh all the time) out of Altoona)) guitarist/singer Nate. This band started almost immediately after SH broke up. Dreadnot started as basement jamathons with songs improvised and lasting 15 minutes long. 6 songs did get molded and recorded out of these sessions. Cds still exist if you contact Tony, Drew, or Brian. This culminated into a 1 time only show at The 31st St Pub which was a show for the records! What a great night! Defunct local band Drastic and San Francisco band Frank Jordan played as well.
The next band consisted entirely of Homer's. Drew, Anthony (SH's final lead guitar player), and Tony, the Roadie. Together they formed Paging Mr. Herman, a 3 piece power pop band. Their run was from approx. 2000-2003. Up until this year they reunited once a year for the most loyalest of fans.
Somewhere during Paging Mr. Herman's run, Ryan started playing trombone for No On 15 out of Penn State as he joined them for three tours.
After Paging Mr Herman, Anthony took his rightful position fronting the band, Marked By the Medicine, which is a 4 piece screamo band.
Also after Paging Mr. Herman, Drew drummed for ska band, The Gibbler Effect. After the singer got a lima bean permanently lodged in her throat, she was replaced by another but Drew had decided to move on. He moved into the drumming position for another local, already established ska band, The Masters of the Universe. Currently he is enjoying being "The Old One" in his current position. MOTU join SH for this momentous reunion.
Now over the years, SH bassist Jeff, lived as a nomad in various places unknown writing little ditties about the destruction onf the world. However he did manage to play bass in another band somewhere in one of the 50 states called Super Bean. Yes Super Bean. Hey, maybe that's what the singer for The Gibbler Effect got caught in her throat? Huh? Jeff now resides in Arizona.
Sometime in 2004, Homer singer Brian, joined up with friend Troy to form The Grammer C Riffs, a 4 piece punk inspired rock band (prior to this he recorded a few songs under the name "Dub Steamroller"). The GCR played Pittsburgh for about 2 years before wrapping it up in early 06. Reunions are planned for the future though and a pending CD release is still yet to happen (but then again there's been a pending Homer release in Brian's hands for 6 years so don't hold your breath!).
With 3 members coming in from out of state (and one out of the closet (can you guess who?)) the Skankin' Homer reunion promises to be interesting and fun.
Some cool Skankin' Homer facts if you will:
